The Dare County Department of Finance has been awarded the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting) by the Government Finance Officers Association for the 30th consecutive year.

The finance department received the award in recognition of its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020. Dare County Commissioners Chairman Bob Woodard presented the award to the Director of Dare County Finance, David Clawson, at the Dare County Commissioners Council Meeting held on Monday August 2, 2021. Clawson also accepted a certificate on behalf of the Director of Assistance Finance, Sally DeFosse.

In 1945, the Government Finance Officers Association created the annual Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting program to encourage local governments to take complex financial information and produce an annual report that was both accessible and easy to understand for all of them, even those who are unfamiliar. with finances.

Governments that successfully meet the high standards of the program are then recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association by receiving the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. Achieving this award represents a significant achievement by a government and its leadership, an achievement that the Dare County Finance Department has achieved every year since David Clawson began serving as County Financial Director ago. 30 years.

“This is an incredible achievement that demonstrates the continued dedication David and his staff show year after year,” said Woodard. “David’s leadership on Dare County financial matters is absolutely exceptional. No one knows the intricacies of county finances better than David. He knows the ins and outs of every aspect of Dare County’s finances, which is no small task, and we really couldn’t ask someone more knowledgeable or more experienced to be our CFO.

President Woodard also acknowledged DeFosse’s contribution to the department and his role in producing another award-winning annual report for Dare County.

“In addition to his own incredible contributions to County Dare, David has also built an extremely talented team within our finance department,” he said. “Sally DeFosse is our Assistant CFO and is responsible for doing a lot of the hands-on work with the budget and financial reporting. I want to thank Sally for all of her hard work and dedication to County Dare. “
